MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLAN ALSO KNOWN AS PART C

A Medicare Advantage is a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private company that contracts with Medicare to provide you with all your Part A and Part B benefits in addition to include drug coverage.

Medicare Advantage are classified as HMO or PPO plans which is very important when choosing which plan you are selecting. The primary concern when choosing a plan is if your provider accepts that particular plan. HMO are only accepted in the state in which you reside and not all providers accept HMO except in emergency situations.

Medicare Advantages cost is very attractive to the client. You then have to consider or compare the number of co-pays for services received. Also, you have many benefits that not all Medicare Advantage Plans offer, benefits vary between each Carrier/Company. Many have a zero copay where another company will have a copay. Again, this is where the qualified agents with Personal Health Care assist you in selecting a plan with out-of pocket co-pays. Our agency supports the purchase of a Hospital Indemnity to help offset cost of co-pays. If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, Medicare services are covered through the plan and aren’t paid for under Original Medicare. What this means to the client is that your Part B premium is paid to the Carrier of the plan you select and does not go to Original Medicare.

Tip 1:

Medicare Advantage/Part C, sometimes called “Part C” or “MAPD,” is offered by private companies approved by Medicare. If you join a Medicare Advantage/Part C, you still have coverage that will cover Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B coverage from the Medicare Advantage/Part C and not Original Medicare.

Tip 2:

Medicare pays a fixed amount for your care each month to the companies offering Medicare Advantage or Part C. These companies must follow the rules set by Medicare. However, each Medicare Advantage or Part C can charge different out-of-pocket costs and have different rules for how you get services (like whether you need a referral to see a specialist or if you have to go to only doctors, facilities, or suppliers that belong to the plan for non-emergency or non-urgent care). These rules can change each year.

Tip 3:

When purchasing a Medicare Advantage/Part C, also called “MAPD,” you will receive prescription drug coverage through the plan. You and your agent will review the medication that you are prescribed to ensure that it is covered under the Medicare Advantage/Part C Prescription Plan/MAPD. It is recommended that you have a yearly drug plan review during open enrollment from October 15 through December 7.
